The GN in 1970 is based on the early months of the BN merger in Minnesota on the Willmar First Subdivision. The layout was started in the early 1990s as a folded dogbone and began evolving into a point to point railroad with the introduction of operations. A helix was added and a partial second deck was added to achieve the point to point. An east end staging yard of three tracks represents St. Paul, MN and then the layout continues west on the GN line through Minneapolis, Wayzata, Delano, Litchfield and Willmar. A ten track staging yard in an upstairs bedroom represents all points west.
After years of Car Card/Waybill operation, we have transitioned to the JMRI waybill system and are working on some signaling using the CATS system. Jobs include a Union Yardmaster, a Lyndale Yardmaster, Willmar Yardmaster, along with two or three road engineers, with one job being a local. The Dispatcher position could be a challenge and is open to one of the three engineers.
